Artist's Commentary

“Painted in the centenary year of her birth, Janet Ogilvy is a deeply personal portrait of the artist’s mother as a young woman. Working from an early photograph, Ramsay Allan sought to preserve both her likeness and the quiet warmth, dignity and strength conveyed through her expression. Her vivid blue eyes form the emotional centre of the painting, framed by the sculptural period hairstyle and luminous turquoise background. The softly rendered clothing and delicate cross lend the portrait an intimate historical presence, evoking both the individual and the era in which the original image was made. The painting was completed and signed on the artist’s birthday in September 2026.”
