“At first glance, Alfagate appears to be a sunlit roadside scene: a classic red Alfa Romeo resting at the entrance to a Scottish estate beneath dense green foliage. Yet concealed within the trees are human-like faces and animal forms that emerge only through prolonged looking. The vivid car and gateway establish the familiar world, while these hidden presences shift the painting towards something less certain. Nature is not treated as passive scenery but as layered, watchful and alive, inviting the viewer to look beyond first appearances - and to wonder whether we are observing the landscape, or whether it is quietly observing us.”
— Ramsay Allan
