“Eva presents Allan’s wife against a sharply divided field of black and clear blue. Her pale hair and winter clothing are set within broad areas of colour that bring attention to the face and its softly observed expression. The contrast gives the composition a clean, graphic structure without overwhelming the intimacy of the portrait. The work records a quiet moment of presence rather than assigning a fixed story or character to the sitter.”
